In China the Kingfishers feathers were a prized material that was inlaid into metal to make earring, necklaces, bracelets, headdresses and combs, screens, carriages and many other decorated items. So it is not surprising that the original birds were hunted to extinction. But they left behind their magical feathers in the treasure they inspired.
