Fiona Paxton

What do you get when you fuse Indian embroidery with the music and street culture of London? It would look a lot like Fiona Paxton's eponymous line. Paxton, who spent 15 years designing prints and embroideries for such luminaries as ChloĆ© and Moschino, was inspired by the ancient embroidery techniques of India; her own passion for patterns, graphics, and color; and the creative spirit of East London, creating what she calls "fluid necklaces that drape to the body, languid and snake-like."  says shopbop.com

Samurai

Look at the stunning woven armor of the samurai. The bib necklace below would not be out of place on a runway today. I covet it. And I know modern designers have been influenced by the work.

The samurai "those how serve" were Japanese warriors who lead their lives according to the bushido ethic code "the way of the warrior". These are portions of their beautifully and painstakingly created armor. Made from steel, iron, silk and embellished with gold and silver and lacquer required the work all of the artisans in Japan. Eventually as the tradition and the need for samurai died out the artist turned their creative endeavors to decorative arts and functional arts.
