Flourless Orange Sunken Chocolate Cakes

I am not sure if I can express how good theses Sunken Chocolate-Orange Cupcakes were. It didn't hurt that we were tipsy but we were full after 3 previous courses and we still all managed to clean out plates.
so good and warm
the chocolate batter. quick baking and perfect portions in cupcake tins.
it is a little fiddly because you have to blanch and chop up the almonds that are a substitute for the flour. but boy is it worth it.
blood orange candied zest over blood orange segments. orange and blood orange zested for the cake
a happy party of people. the party was divided into 4 chefs who cook and 4 guests who help and clean up. it was a fun and tasty night.

YSL Cuff

Gold plated silver postcard cuff. I'm not so sure if lost if it would be returned to sender.

Cafe Sabarsky at the Neue Galerie

Delights in the afternoon on a Monday no less. Cafe Sabarsky
perfect after a day of running around the museums
a little champagne never hurts. linzer tart and a chocolate cake with cherries and cream. yum!

The Guggenheim

I visited the Guggenheim on Monday with my friend to see a special Noguchi exhibit which turned out to be some pictures he took on his travel and it was held in the basement or "lower level" near the photocopier. It was interesting to see how his travels influenced his designs and to see his pretty first wife.
It was a windy day but Dr. Catherine was just evading my camera.
the well known spiral. but with an additional metal spiral that is  apart of Ann Hamilton's installation. we didn't get to see the Tibetan prayer bells fly down the track and ring.
the inner spiral seen from the hallway where the Noguchi photos were shown in the basement.
a part of the Third Mind show. artist James Lee Byars gold leafed room. I took the photo before the guard told me none were allowed. Oopse and yea

fishy says hi

"our" beta (he is wintering in my apartment) is doing daily dolphin jumps. his "mother" says that means he is happy/warm. or maybe he just wants a clean bowl. we have staring contests and he psychically tells me that it is totally fine to feed him more, much more than the fish food containers says.

diamonds and pearls

my "my magazine folded and I have no job. but this is really pretty" ring. baroque pearl, diamonds, white gold, hand made vintage ring with a hinged back so I will always get to wear it even when I get knobby knuckles in my later years.
its friend some where out there. obviously this one is more scared.

vintage hats on strange heads

I can just imagine walking down the street and seeing the ladies of New York wearing all of their special hats. Flowers, feathers, ribbons and netting. I love the combinations and eras. What gets me are the head in the pictures. And these girls are the "attractive" ones.
silk roses and violets on an Edwardian hat. such a beautiful muted color palate. brown, copper green, straw, faded blue and fuchsia.
dimensional black felt with a red silk bow echoing the hats shape
I always see a young Martha Stewart when I see this. probably something she would have made for herself. the flowers look spray painted gold.
it must be that all the easter candy is in the store but I love the combination of the purple, lavender and yellow. she must have got into the self tanner as she is almost more colorful than her hat!
what a serious bow. straight out of the Juicy Couture ads. or from an 80's quinceanera.
